If recent media reports are to be believed, Chelsea are set to lose out on yet another target. Earlier in the summer, the Blues were linked to the signing of Brazil international midfielder.
According to Italian publication Sport Mediaset, the Brazil international has agreed to join the Italian giant and he is set to undergo medical within 48 hours.
The experience midfielder revealed earlier in the year his desire to join the reigning Premier League Champions Chelsea.
“I am a warrior, the English like that,” the former Juventus man said. “I love Chelsea because I’m a big fan of Jose Mourinho.”
The report also says, the Seria A giant had agreed a fee of £2.2million for the 32 years old midfielder despite Gala’s initial £7.1m asking price.
Although with enough experience on his side, I feel it will do Chelsea good not to bargain for the Brazilian star simply because, we have enough quality defensive midfield players – which is his primary position.
Although at 32 years of age, Melo is no longer young and may struggle with the pace of the Premier League, his experience on the big stage ( having played in the champions league and the world cup ) would have been helpful for Chelsea.
Although Melo seems gone, I just hope Mourinho has something planned in the defensive midfield role as Chelsea simply cannot afford to go into the season with only Matic as the REAL defensive midfielder at the club.
