In the latest listings released by IFFHS Chelsea are still ranked as one of the top four club teams in the world. The West London club currently lie in 4th position after losing 3rd place to Spanish giants Barcelona. Chelsea had a impressive month which has seen them finish February top of the Premier League.
The statistics released by IFFHS are made up via a points system in which clubs pick up points for wins or draws in their domestic and continental competitions. The number of points available is judged on how competitive the competitions are that each club has to play in. The Premier League is ranked as one of the top leagues and therefore Chelsea were able to gain the maximum points for a win or a draw.
Chelsea recorded three Premier League victories in February with an impressive away win coming against Manchester City followed by picking up all three points in their games with Everton and Newcastle United. Jose Mourinho’s side were dealt a blow by only drawing with West Bromwich Albion. It is in the cup competitions where they had the least success last month after they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester City and then were only able to draw in Turkey last week in the Champions League.
Despite dropping down a place in the rankings Chelsea are still ranked as the number one club side from England. Their nearest challengers are London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in 11th position followed by Arsenal (13th) and Manchester City (18th). Chelsea still have some way to go to catch the two sides top in the rankings, Champions League holders Bayern Munich (1st) and La Liga leaders Real Madrid (2nd).
Manchester United are 46th.
