John Stones To Become A Chelsea Player, To Wear Number Six Shirt

If a report by the English media this morning is anything to go by, Chelsea may be announcing the signing of Manchester United target John Stones in the next couple of hours. According to reports, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is keen on bringing in a centre back and John Stones is his main target.

Chelsea have earlier tabled two bids said to be for £20 million and £26 million for Stones both of which were rejected by Everton. Reports today claim Chelsea are confident of signing the player and believe a new bid of £40 million which will be put in for the player today will be good enough to seal the deal.

Stones who plays as a centre back can also play the right back position. In fact, he started as a right back but as matured into a classy centre back. Should he sign for Chelsea, which to be honest looks likely, he will be expected to be John Terry’s long term replacement.

Reports claim should Stones sign for Chelsea, he will be given the number six shirt and will reportedly earn £75,000 per week which is a significant improvement on his current wage at Everton.

Aside Chelsea, Manchester United have also been linked to the player and should Chelsea manage to get him ahead of the red devils, it will be a double edge sword as Mourinho will be strengthening the team and at the same time ensure his rival for the title does not have a quality player that John Stones is.

Chelsea already completed the signing of Falcao, Asmir Begovic, Rahman Baba and Pedro in this summer transfer window.
