Long time target Diego Costa has admitted that he will be joining Chelsea following the World Cup in Brazil.
The 25-year old Brazil born Spain international has been a transfer target for the London club following a breakout season for Athletico Madrid coupled with a poor last season for strikers Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres, and Demba Ba, who scored 19 Premier League goals combined.
Costa has undergone medicals with Chelsea and agreed personal terms, while the two clubs are finalizing the £32 million deal.
“Why would I have chosen to play for Chelsea? It is a thing that is about to happen,”
“Things are going in a direction and, if they keep going as they are going, it is the team I will play for in the next season.
“I’ve wanted to play in the Premier League for a while. Chelsea are one of the greatest clubs of the world so there are many factors that make you take a decision like this.”
Costa scored 36 goals for Atletico Madrid last season and helped them lift the La Liga title and reach the Champions League final. However, the Spain’s striker has insisted that it will take some time for him to adapt to English football.
“Every year is a different story, nothing is easy in life. I will have to work a lot to fit in with the style of the Premier League,” added Costa.
