Match Report: Chelsea 2-1 Crystal Palace

Jose Mourinho’s men now sit second in the table only two points away from Arsenal after a narrow 2-1 win over Crystal Palace. Goals from Ramires and Fernando Torres ensured a vital three points for the blues!

Chelsea dominated the possession at the start of the game and took the lead shortly after the clock hit fifteen minutes. Jose Mourinho slated his strikers in the press and Fernando Torres replied to his comment with a poacher’s goal. The Spaniard was the quickest to react to Willian’s shot which hit the post, and he cooly slotted the ball past Speroni in the Crystal Palace goal. 1-0

Marouane Chamakh seems a re-vitalised player under Tony Pulis and he continued his good form once again. The Morroco International scored a 12-yard volley after a fantastic cross from Ward. 1-1

However their lead didn’t last very long. Four minutes after the goal Willian found Hazard who cut the ball back to the rushing Ramires who beautifully curled his shot into the goal. Terrific move and a brilliant finish by the Brazilian, that was his first goal since May.

Willian started the second half in a similar fashion as the firs, he was bright and picked out Mata who was running towards goal however Mata hit his volley over the bar.

Tony Pulis felt the need for a change, and he decided to introduce Yannick Bolasie to replace Barry Bannan and bring some extra physicality into the midfield.

Yannick Boalsie had a decent chance moments after the hour mark. Jason Punchen who had been impressive for Palace played a fine cross to the back post, but Bolasie could only manage to head over from 12-yards out.

Crystal Palace started to apply the pressure on Chelsea, as they continued to threaten on the counter-attack trying to expose Chelsea’s defence.

They almost did just that with almost thirteen minutes left. Jerome’s cross wasn’t dealt with by the Chelsea defence, O’Keefe then struck a shot which was cleared off the line by JT. Frantic stuff at the back.

With only five minutes left on the clock Chelsea had the easiest chance to kill the game. Demba Ba drove forward along side Oscar and Ramires, it was a three on one opportunity. Ba passed to Ramires who looked desitend to score but he completly miss-kicked the ball. Awful miss.

Speroni then managed to produce a moment of brilliance with a majestic double save! First he saved a shot from Andre Schurrle, and them managed to deny Demba Ba on the rebound.

The full time whistle blew after four minutes of added time. 2-1 Chelsea.
