Match Report: Swansea 1-1 Chelsea

A late equalizer from Pablo Hernandez ensured that Swansea were able to snatch a point in what turned out to be a low-scoring match. The draw now means that Chelsea are no longer top of the table after United’s win over Arsenal.

First half

Chances were few and far between in the first half. Swansea’s Spanish duo of Angel Rangel and Pablo Hernandez combined well to make some space but the cross from Rangel’s cross was poor. Chelsea won a free-kick from a dangerous position but Oscar couldn’t make the most of it. Chelsea’s first chance came 11 minutes into the game when Ivanovic could have scored after a flick from Torres but Britton cleared off the line. Hazard had a shot from outside the area but it went over. However, Swansea were the better team in the first half, despite the lack of chances created by both sides.

Second half

Chelsea looked lively in the beginning of the second half and a run from Hazard resulted in a low shot that Tremmel, Swansea’s second choice keeper saved easily. A cross from Torres was met by Moses, but the Nigerian couldn’t convert. Swansea were also looking for a goal, and only some good defending coupled with a save from Cech kept the scores level. A free-kick from Hazard earned Chelsea a corner. From the resulting corner, Cahill nodded the ball forward towards Moses who headed it home to give Chelsea the lead. It was the Nigerian’s first Premier League goal for the club. Swansea were quick to respond, but Cech saved twice in quick succession of De Guzman and Dyer. Ivanovic blocked a shot from Hernandez, but the goal came in the 87th minute. Hernandez shot low in the corner after a passing move between him and substitute Shechter. Swansea pushed for a winner, but the score remained 1-1.
