Shaping up for Next Season Part 1

chelsea-crest-2012-13
In this 4 part series I am going to talk about next season and what our team should line up as and who we should get rid of and who we should keep. I am going off that next season we have Champions League football, we have the ‘Special One’ back as manager and all the player who are at the end of their contracts go and we can’t bring them back as they have signed for other teams. In part 1 I am going to look at the keeper and the back four.

Goalkeeper
Undisputedly we will have Cech as our 1st choice keeper and we all know that will happen, great reflexes, good reactions and commands his box with ease and I can still see him being our 1st choice for at least two more years. He has also broken a lot of records while playing for Chelsea and in his playing career.

For 2nd choice we have 3 candidates out on Loan Courtois who I think we should Loan to a team in the PL that is in Europe, Sam Walker in my opinion is a good shout as he is on loan with Colchester currently but is doing a fine job out on loan having gained some valuable experience while out on loan the other is Matej Delac who is out on loan and impressing well both want to prove they have what it takes and in fairness I think they do also give them game time in the reserve games to keep them on their toes.

3rd choice I believe we should promote Jamal Blackman to 3rd choice keeper as he has been a good leader in the Chelsea youth teams leading them to the FA Youth Cup and to helping them become a formiddable youth team and keep him playing in the youth team so he still gets game time and stays on his toes.

In Summary
Have Cech as our 1st choice, Bring back Walker or Delac for 2nd choice and then promote Blackman to 3rd choice. Having Courtois go out on Loan in England will be useful as he can adapt to the English game without a large amount of pressure on him even though he is used to pressure playing for Athletico.

Right Back
Next season I see Azpillicueta becoming our first choice right back as I see Ivanovic moving into the centre back role more. Azpilli has impressed on his first season in England being very solid on the right side of our defence putting in impressive performances and pushing Ivanovic for that starting spot.

2nd choice would be Ivanovic just as cover really as we have all seen him in right back he is strong, solid and can track back well but I can see him playing more in the middle of defence.

3rd choice (yes there is a 3rd choice) is the brazillian right back we bought in January transfer window Wallace, he is young fast and can get up and down the right wing. He is still in brazil mainly because of the FA’s rules over there that a Brazillian player cannot leave Brazil until he is 18 if he has played first team football. This lad has a bright future ahead of him and has earnt a lot of praise in Brazil.

In Summary
We have Azpillicueta as our main 1st choice right back with Wallace being back up and playing Capital One cup and FA cup games in the early stages of the tournaments maybe loaning him out if he needs to adapt and have Ivanovic there as cover for both and for him to play in big games if Azpilli cannot. Having Ivanovic fill in when needed.

Left Back
At Chelsea we have been lucky to have on of the best left backs in the world possible still the best and that there hasn’t been one since a certain man called Roberto Carlos im not saying Cole is as good as Carlos but he is certainly up there. I can see Ashley Cole being our 1st choice Left Back he has the tactical knowledge to defend and can get up and down the pitch helping attack and defend.

Our 2nd choice i can see it being Ryan Bertrand as he has deputised well for Cole and has his chance to shine at the moment with Cole sidelined for a while. Ryan has come into his own as of late and in my opinion has pushed Cole a lot this season for the starting left back spot and I can see him starting more games next season as Cole’s legs are starting to give a bit in his age.

Send Van Aanholt out on loan to an English club as he has gained all the experience he can at Vitesse so I think its about time he adapted to the English game so a team thats mid-table will be a good idea I believe.

Bring in
I think we should bring in Luke Shaw but loan him straight back out and let him build on his experience he already has and bring him back when Cole leaves. We have an advantage over other teams as he is a self proclaimed Chelsea fan and I think with the right offer to Southampton and Shaw we will be able to snap him up.

In Summary
We keep Cole and Bertrand at the club as our Left backs competing for the starting spot, we’ll have Van Aanholt go out on loan in England, Buy Luke Shaw hopefully and either Loan him straigh back to Southampton or another team in the Premiership.

Centre Back
In Centre back we have a few candidates and I am going to list them as to who should play the most.

John Terry should start not because he is a Legend or our Club captain its just that when he plays he gives that sense of security and solidity at the back that few other of our CBs give in our team and always put his body on the line.

Luiz/Cahill both as good as eachother but have diferrent strengths and weaknesses, Luiz being fast and a good eye for a pass is our playmaker centre back and i do believe you kind of need a rock and player as your CBs as the rock wins the ball playing it to the other CB and he plays the ball out. Cahill is reliable, strong, confident and a good leader a lot of people are comparing him to Terry when he was his age and you can see why.

Ivanovic is our hard man and our rock, Not afraid to back down and is always strong in the challenge. I put him 4th as I can see him more at Right Back than Centre back.

Nathan Ake is the fifth as he has just started to get game time and has impressed when he has played. He played the full 90 against Middlesborough and he earnt a lot of praise in that game from the senior players. Next season I can see him playing a lot of our Capital One Cup games and early FA cup games and getting a few substitute appearances the best thing though is he can play in the Pivot and has a play style like that of another Fizzy hair man of ours David Luiz and has a good passing range in his arsenal.

In Summary
I think we should start with Terry and then Luiz or Cahill with Ivanovic filling in when needed and have Ake playing cup games and not so important games for us.

As a Whole Then
As a whole our Goalkeepers and defence will have a blend of Experience and Youth to it making it look more revitalised.

Our Goalkeepers would be:
Petr Cech, Sam Walker or Matej Delac and Jamal Blackman

At Right Back would be:
Cesar Azpillicueta, Branislav Ivanovic and Wallace dos Santos with Brana and Wallace swapping being second choice.

At Left Back would be:
Ashley Cole and Ryan Bertrand would be our Left backs. Luke Shaw bring him in but loan him out as if he stayed I can’t see him getting a lot of game time even though he has a great future he is only 17 so let him go out on loan and build on the Experience he already has.

At Centre Back:
John Terry, David Luiz, Gary Cahill, Branislav Ivanovic and Nathan Ake. I have Brana in more than one position as he can cover at both positions well and has played in both position a lot this season and last season.

How do you think we should line up next season?
